Sometimes I feel like I am just going through the motions of studying and reviewing, studying and reviewing, but not really getting anywhere so it’s easy for me to get discouraged and want to quit. That is until I get together with my Cork Dorks that everything seems to make sense. They positively reassure me that I am doing the right thing and that I need to keep going. I guess that is what friends are for right?!
Right now I am bored overall with France which isn’t helping my motivation any. I absolutely love everything they represent in the world of wine but I am ready for a change (mostly a change in language honestly). The good news is that Bordeaux is the last region for us to study before we move on to Spain so the end is near.
I met up with Dana on Sunday at my favorite coffee shop to review Bordeaux; as usual I underestimated my own knowledge. Before we even started going through flashcards I told her that I did not study enough so I don’t think we should start with the flashcards. Instead of being discouraged by my negative attitude, Dana asks me to tell her what I do know about the region, producers, etc. Eventually the flashcards came into play and we started discussing the region and it’s sub regions, before I knew it an hour and a half had gone by and I was feeling on top of the world again. Unfortunately our time was up for the day, I had to get home and get ready for work. The whole way home I felt the urge to study for the next 6+ hours so I know everything there is to know about the region, producers, vineyards, varietals, etc…but it was in fact time to go to work.
The next time the Cork Dorks get together will be to have another dinner; this time to celebrate the end of our French studies and the start of our Spanish studies. Please stay tuned to see what kind of tasty food and wine pairings we come up with this time around. I vow to take pictures at the next one so I can share more of our dinner with you, maybe even recipes we will see!
